
Sipisopiso Waterfall or Sipiso-piso is a waterfall located in Tongging Village, Merek District, Karo Regency, North Sumatra Province, Indonesia. Sipisopiso Waterfall is located on the lip of the giant caldera of Lake Toba and is formed on the Pajanabolon River which is one of the rivers supplying water to Lake Toba. Sipisopiso Waterfall is located at an altitude of about 1,300 meters above sea level. The name Sipisopiso is taken from the name of a mountain located just northeast of Sipisopiso Waterfall. The Legend of Sipiso-Piso
The waterfall is named after a local legend about a young woman named Sipiso who was forced to marry a man she didn’t love. On her wedding day, she ran away and jumped into the waterfall, rather than marry the man. The waterfall has been named after her ever since.
Visiting Sipiso-Piso Waterfall
The Sipiso-Piso Waterfall is located in the Karo Highlands, about 3 hours from Medan, the capital of North Sumatra. The best time to visit the waterfall is during the dry season, from April to October.
To get to the waterfall, you can take a taxi or rent a car. The road to the waterfall is winding and steep, but the views are worth it. Once you reach the top of the cliff, you can see the waterfall cascading down into the valley below.
